Organs have an upper and a lower keyboard. The keyboards are very similar to the piano keyboard. They also come with a pedal board to play the bass notes with the foot. The more expensive models have more keys and bass notes. These pedal board keys were set up with the same order and names as the keyboard notes so that you could find all the bass notes just like you would on the keys. This allowed a player to play the melody with the right hand the chords with the left and the bass notes like a bass player with the foot. This was like having the sound of three instruments. This instrument was very popular at one time. After around 1986 it started to lose a lot of it’s appeal. People liked it because it came with a lot of different sounds and built in rhythms from a waltz, fox trot, polka, ragtime, Latin, swing, march, rhythm & blues and all kinds of others. People could use these different rhythms to play along with the melody they would play. There were settings to make the melody sound like a variety of instruments like flute, trumpet, violin, sax, piano, electric piano, trombone, marimba vibes, etc. The organs were expensive to buy with costs from $7,500.00 to $30,000.00

After 1988 keyboards and digital pianos started to have these features built into them also. They did not have the bass pedals to add the bass notes with the foot. The pedal boad is an advantage of playing the organ.
